How to play Plomley

The game of Plomley was first described in the unlikely and now hard-to-find book 'Not 1983'. It's also where the first iterations of 'The meaning of liff' were to be found.

You will need: A party that is failing to rock, a stereo, a pile of records/CDs/MP3s that are not your own and a set of guests divided reasonably equally between those who like pop music on the radio, sullen black-clad teenagers (of any age), metallers and 'I don't care I just want to dance' types.

The object of the game is for your faction to remain in control of the musical reproduction device for as long as possible before a fight breaks out and/or the stereogram is thrown out of the window. The team who start the fight or lob the stereo are deemed to have lost. The winners are those who's choice is playing when it all kicks off. Bonus points are awarded for records/CDs being ripped from the player part-way through (Mark Stewart & the Maffia are good for this, although rather like deploying a battlefield nuke. The only place you can go after that is SClub7, Extreme Noise Terror or Merzbow) or for playing the same two Abba songs over and over, thus driving everyone else to the pub.


If you've not been to parties like that, you're a lying bastard.

I'm sure you lot can come up with extra rules. Though that's the kiss of death to any comments.

Interesting British party tactics.

Whenever I was (I say was, as I don't party any more)in fear of attending a party like that, I always used to bring a mixed cassette tape that I had made the day earlier. Of course I am dating myself because no one makes mixed tapes any more. It always worked, mind.
