Predictably, I like the Landie.

You may imagine my surprise. That picture led me off elsewhere to discover the correct terminology for WD Landies.

It was also Jolly Useful to discover that the military kept/keep their own railways and that they were jammed with random old locos that they parked in odd sidings and then forgot about.

The Crest stuff is a lot harder to get my head around. Although as breakable as any other large network, it seems.

I enjoyed this attempt to describe a performance problem as an improvement:

Yes, it paints a picture of a funny off-shoot world of Military Steam, a sort of mutant hybrid of Steam World and Soldier World. I wonder if they still do any of that stuff, or if it's all helicopters now ?

I found the site via the Risks Digest: http://www.crestco.co.uk/news/newsletters/newsletter-oct2006.pdf

In which they are rather forthright about some breakage.

I need to learn more about how it all bolts together; there's an awful lot of banking jargon in there to confuse a chap. I had just handwaved all this stuff away, but I think I need to understand it now. I don't wonder that it'll be more rubbish than I expected.

Edit: Fascinating stuff. A direct motorway route from Gloucester to Whitby, as envisaged in 1936. Autobahn!

OT: from [livejournal.com profile] kineticfactory: "Subject: line found in spam folder: 'Laboratory pep rally'." I saw it and immediately thought of you. Got more songs yet?
