Nothing.
I have the ugly impression that life is busily happening to other people as they wave gaily from the buses marked 'Interesting' as they steam past. (Of course, my bus was marked 'Furthur' but I was persuaded off it in a moment of weakness. Damn. I hate it when that happens)
Have dug out a wedge of old-school electrofunk 12" classics on the off-chance they were as good as I remembered. Oh yes indeed. There was a time when all the best records came out of New York.
But nostalgia's not a healthy place to be. Enough of that.
Need to fix some things I've been putting off. Most for far too long. Then my psyche will unlock and I can continue to the next level. Maybe I get the keys to the bus back. Who can say?
Also need massive clue regarding friends-list etiquette. Answers to the usual address please, chaps.

Date: 2002-03-11 03:57 am (UTC)my theory is this, you have the option to hide your friends list, if you dont hide it then its public info for mass consumption
so do as you please :)
meanwhile... wanna be kidnapped and taken to prague? *g*

You can always do what I do and always post custom friends only - I have lots of groups that I can send things to if I don't want others to read them - though mostly I just send stuff to everyone

Date: 2002-03-11 05:27 am (UTC)As for friends-list etiquette, you can add who you want, and if you don't want to add them, don't. There are a few people I haven't added, and I don't feel bad because they are for the most part, strangers. You can also split your friends list into various degrees of secrecy, which then becomes a 'custom' selection in the drop-down menu when you post - and you can choose which of your friends lists your friends-only posts will be viewable by.

Date: 2002-03-11 05:30 am (UTC)Yeah - I got that vibe when poking around with stuff before I got involved. (And now I do find myself prodding 'what are my friends doing now' like some Skinner-boxed crackmonkey. Oh God what a state to get into... Missjanette and Alexander will be slightly amused, I'm sure...)
Custom friends. Yuzzem. Dig it. Ideal for when I want to act like a nineteen-year-old screaming drama queen. Well, more so than usual, anyway...
Thanks, all.

Hear that? The sound of the sun coming out somewhere within JH-R's head, Gilliam-like.
[Now I'm going to spend the next half-hour analysing my motives for posting the original. I think somedays it's possible to be somewhat too post-modern. Hey ho for decontextualising the personal narrative and empowering the cult of self.]

Date: 2002-03-12 09:14 am (UTC)The only general rule I have is only adding people to my list I know IRL, and in the couple of cases where I don't it's from knowing them via email. There are other people who I know are interested in our events/ebay info, but I don't feel I know them well enough to post other stuff to - hence the public/friends-only split.
I don't feel it's any big deal if I add someone and they don't add me, though I have had one complaint about the reverse to date (but once it was explained they were OK about it).
Write and add friends (or not) as it suits you, not other people...

Date: 2002-03-12 09:25 am (UTC)Anyway. People that I've not seen/spoken to for years seem to be crawling out of the woodwork in a most pleasing and extirely unexpected manner. Big y'selves up.
Records. Yes. Dunno when, mind.
